Diovan (Valsartan) is a drug that belongs to the group of specific angiotensin II receptor antagonists and has a pronounced hypotensive effect. Diovan is used to treat both primary (essential) and secondary hypertension. Also used in the complex treatment of myocardial infarction and chronic heart failure.
Diovan (Valsartan) competitively and selectively blocks angiotensin II receptors (subtype AT1), which are responsible for the effects of angiotensin II and are located in the vessels, heart, kidneys, brain, lungs and adrenal cortex. Diovan (Valsartan) suppresses all the effects of angiotensin II mediated through AT1 receptors, including vasoconstriction.
Diovan (Valsartan) reduces myocardial hypertrophy in patients with arterial hypertension.
Diovan (Valsartan) Dosage and Administration

The recommended dose is 80 mg once a day daily, regardless of the race, age and gender of the patient. The antihypertensive effect is observed in the first 2 weeks of treatment, the maximum effect after 4 weeks. For those patients who cannot achieve an adequate therapeutic response, the daily dose of Diovan (Valsartan) can be increased to 320 mg or additional diuretics are prescribed
